Water & Beach Safety
Encinitas Ocean Lifeguards & Department of Marine Safety
The Encinitas Lifesaving Association is the nonprofit arm of the Encinitas Marine Safety Division of the Fire Department.
Encinitas Ocean Lifeguards patrol the 3.5 miles of coast managed by the City of Encinitas, with 9 lifeguard towers stationed between South Ponto and Swami's in the summer months. Our ultimate aim is to ensure that the public can enjoy our Encinitas beaches safely, by providing information to beachgoers, performing water rescues, mitigating hazards on the beach, and providing First Responder medical services. Given Encinitas' unique topography, our Ocean Lifeguards are also trained in specialty areas like cliff, swift water, and underwater rescue.

There are currently 6 full time Encinitas lifeguards headquartered at Moonlight Beach, supported by 25 seasonal staff.
